Assigned Entry #6

I liked blogging because it was a way for me to express things that I find interesting in a non-formal way, using pictures and videos to illustrate. I enjoy sharing my thoughts with the few people who read my blogs. I like blogging in general; it feels good to write down my opinions and getting feedback. I feel as though I took blogging completely serious. Whatever topic I was interested in I became an expert at it by researching my topic and portraying it in my own unique style.

took it seriously because I liked doing it and I showed my creativity through my blogs and I knew that it would be on the World Wide Web for everyone to see so that made me motivated to do a good job at it I learned how to add my own tone and voice into my writing.

I learned a lot from my blogging experience and most importantly I learned that I like to express myself by writing.  I never really dreaded doing a blog and that's awesome

Blogging as an assignment for a class was useful because I think blogging was a way our teacher could see without all the formal rules of writing  we as the student can be very persuasive entertaining and educational at the same time.

My suggestions to Chris about the blogging assignments that he is constructed is that he should continue the concept of using blogs, because it is a perfect modern way for him to connect to his students and see what interests them, and how the work when the pressure is not directly on them. Keep up the good job and this was an experience i will never forget.

Stereotypes

To understand different examples of stereotypes, am going to define what stereotype is. Steriotype is any commonly known public belief about a certain social group or a type of individual. Stereotypes are often confused with prejudices, because, like prejudices, a stereotype is based on a prior assumption. Stereotypes are often created about people of specific cultures or races.

Almost every culture or race has a stereotype, including Jewish people, African American people, Irish people, and Polish people, among others.

Stereotypes are not just different races and backgrounds, Gender stereotypes also exist. For example, if you say that men are better than women, you’re stereotyping all men and all women. If you say that all women like to cook, you are stereotyping women.

Sexual orientation stereotypes are also common. These stereotypes occur when you have negative views on gays, lesbians, and transgender individuals. People who have these negative views are often known as homophobic.

Stereotyping is not only hurtful, it is also wrong. Even if the stereotype is correct in some cases, constantly putting someone down based on your preconceived perceptions will not encourage them to succeed.

Stereotyping can lead to bullying form a young age. Jocks and Preps pick on the Nerds and the Geeks; Skaters pick on the Goths, so on and so forth. Stereotyping is encouraging bullying behavior that children carry into adulthood.

Stereotyping can also lead people to lives driven by hate, and can cause the victims of those stereotypes to be driven by fear. For example, many gays and lesbians are afraid to admit their sexuality in fear of being judged. It is a lose-lose situation, both for those who are doing the stereotype and those who are victims.

Even though some stereotypes are true it not most times and can be very offensive people of other cultures. I am Jamaican and I got a dollar for every time I was asked if I smoke weed I would be very happy.  When people stereotype it means that they have a limited understanding of that culture and they should know that the world has become multicultural thanks to the internet. People shouldn’t try to live up to their stereotype because of their race or gender. My advice to then is to just be yourself and ignore ignorance.

Assigned Entry # 5 Media

Media is all around us, therefore is hard to not be affected by it. Due to its tremendous audience and the impact it has, the media has been able to change public opinion. The media's powerful influence can be seen through its portrayal of major events. When the media began, it had a political agenda. It was outlets through which the common people would criticize the government but now it is a very persuasive tool used to persuade encourage and brainwash the public.

The goal of media is to persuade the audience to believe or do something. They persuade by using techniques of persuasion, they have been used for thousands of years. I think knowing these techniques are important because when you know how the media is trying to persuade you to believe something you’ll be able to make your own decisions.

An example of this is a person who doesn’t like animals comes across a commercial about adopting a rescued animal they do the whole sad music cute puppy dog eyes footage of one legged cats so that this may change their opinions because they’re persuaded by the innocence and helplessness that those specific commercials try to represented.
They try by linking a product, with something that is already liked like this picture of family and coke they think if you are a family person and you like family you like coke

When they show a product the put beautiful people to catch your attention persuading the audience to think that if they use that product you would look beautiful too
Another way is by saying that it is what’s in and so many people are doing it and you shouldn’t be left out by not doing it also
They try to bribe you by saying if you buy one you you’ll get one free or on discount, you might not want it in the first place but if you think you are winning something you might buy it anyways
They would pay celebrities to say they like something and the public would respond because they are famous and they talk about how it worked for then so that people might think that it could work for them too
They try to make us laugh in advertising because when we laugh we feel good and they pop their logo on the screen so our good feeling will be associated with that logo they hope that when we see that logo in the store we will feel good
They use words like Greatest, Best, Lowest, Fastest, Better, Improved, Amazing and Incredible
They use Repetition Over and over so that it will be stuck in your head and in my case that song Lerner and Row is the way to go call 9661900 is stuck it has a catchy tune and its funny I always sing along when I hear the commercial come on
And that headon commercial its really annoying …
Persuasion is a powerful thing it makes people believe something that they didn’t before weather positive or negative. Whether it’s turning on the T.V. or flipping through a magazine, a person is guaranteed to see companies selling their products with a technique that I like to call, brainwashing. In all seriousness, it’s horrible that companies lure the viewer into believing that they need the product that the product will somehow enhance their life and they can’t possibly live without it. But the way the companies go about doing so is flat out appalling

Where the Easter Bunny come from?

Growing up in a Christian home I have never been told about the Easter egg or painted an egg and looked for it, so I decided to do a blog about where did the whole idea come from and why is a bunny laying eggs because I know Rabbits (bunnies) are mammals, just like us, they have babies just like dogs and cats, which tells me the egg thing is symbolic.

I ask my Best friend what it is all about because her mother had that tradition with her growing up but unfortunately she couldn’t give me a straight answer.

I grew up in Jamaica so there is no school for the whole week of Easter and on that morning my mother would give us bun with cheese to eat in the morning for breakfast and took some for lunch to eat in Church. My mother made fish for dinner before we left for church so we can have it after a long survice at church.  She told me bun symbolizes the resurrection of Jesus Crist on the 3rd day after his crucifixion at Calvary.

Today the origins of Easter like Christmas are overshadowed by modern traditions and mythology and mow is about people dying eggs in huge baskets and scavenger hunts

Doing my research I came to find out that the rabbit was sacred to the mythic goddess of spring Eostre which is where Easter takes its name Rabbits have frequent multiple births so it becomes a symbol of fertility and eggs is a symbol of rebirth and were often used in pagan celebrations Christians adopted the egg symbol to represent the rebirth of Jesus Crist the egg can also represent the tomb from which Jesus arose. Back then different nations would hold rituals to celebrate life and fertility and the rabbit was a sure sign of spring and fertility they would come out and multiply and another symbol of life was the egg during the vernal equinox eggs was dyed red in the exchange for good luck tokens to worship the goddess of rebirth renewal and spring called Eostre who would return at the vernal equinox and bring life back to earth. Eostre is where they get the name Easter

The story was that one year the Eostre was late at returning to earth and bringing the worth of spring as a consequence birds wings froze off the Eostre felt guilty and wanted to save the bird so she turned it into a rabbit the rabbit became one of her cohorts  and to honor its beginning as a bird once a year at the vernal equinox the rabbit had the ability to lay rainbow colored eggs which it would hide for children to find children were also told to lay there caps and bionics on the floor upside down and the rabbit would make a nest in the hat and leave the eggs there and this is the modern day Easter basket.

Entry #4 Capitalism: A Love Story review

Capitalism: A Love Story

All the points in this documentary that he addressed are situations that I and people close to me have experienced. I came to the same conclusions he did in his documentary without ever having watched it or knowing anything about him. Then I watched this and realized, guess I'm not the only one who thinks like this. For that reason alone, I trust him and I think he's credible.

Families pay the price with their jobs, their homes and their savings

Millions of unemployed, underemployed, fed-up and freaked-out citizens should watch this movie Michael explain it all or at least crack jokes, while giving credible information. He had our emotion going on an up and down roller coaster which kept his audience engaged.

I could tell that his heart is in the right place, he also makes room for other voices, that was good because it makes us see that he has people that are in high position that are with him. The workers and members of one family in foreclosure who videotaped the police breaking down the door to evict them were moving.

I liked when he showed the official video of President Franklin D. Roosevelt giving his speech for how he wants to see America even though he was sick, it showed that he cared and wanted to be personable with his people.  Even though it didn’t happen he gave us an example of what it would have been like if it had happen because another country did it and things are going well.

I liked that he Portrayed Barrack Obama as a Socialist.

I was so sad to see the families being foreclosed on leaving the only thing the know and to add insult to injury the banks paid the family to clean their home before leaving. It was funny when the husband that was being foreclosed sarcastically thanked the Banks for paying off them to leave their homes clean.

Choose Super Foods instead of Junk Foods

So swimsuit season is coming up, and you know what that means… it’s time to crunch down on our diets!! While doing research I realized is that it’s not what you eat it’s how much of it you eat. Eating in smaller quantity really helps.
Whatch this video it will give you some information on what Super foods are

There are a few super foods for weight loss that are recommended by Health Magazine. Super foods have a really high nutrient density which means that tons of nutrients are crammed into that particular food, Nutrients like carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals and vitamins which the body needs to survive.

Superfoods build bones, prevent chronic diseases, improve your eyesight, and even keep your mind sharp. New evidence suggests these foods can also help you get and stay slim.

Black beans
A cup of black beans packs a whopping 15 grams of satisfying protein and doesn't contain any of the saturated fat found in other protein sources, like red meat.
Oats
Oats are rich in fiber, so a serving can help you feel full throughout the day. Just a half cup packs 4.6 grams of Resistant Starch, a healthy carb that boosts metabolism and burns fat.
Avocados

There's no reason to be afraid of eating fats as long as they're the right fats.
Oleic acid, a compound in avocados' healthy monounsaturated fats (MUFAs), may trigger your body to actually quiet hunger. Stick to a quarter or a half of an avocado and watch that belly fat melt away. The creamy fruit is also packed with fiber and protein.
Salmon
Lean sources of protein help you feel full without adding fat. However, 50% of women ages 18 to 50 don't know if they get enough of this essential nutrient.
Up your intake with salmon; it's a leaner choice than red meat and is chock-full of MUFAs to boot. A 2001 study found that dieters eating a MUFA-rich diet lost an average of 9 pounds, while their low-fat diet counterparts gained, on average, 6.
Blueberries
Best known for their anti-aging effects, blueberries, while tiny, are a powerful figure-friendly eat: A 1-cup serving sets you back only 80 calories, and helps you feel full with 4 grams of fiber.
Broccoli
Cooked or raw, this cruciferous veggie is well-known for its cancer-preventing powers, but with a punch of filling fiber in less than 30 calories a serving, it's bound to prevent weight problems too.
Brown rice
Brown rice is a heartier, fiber-packed alternative to less-than-super white rice. A half-cup serving contains 1.7 grams of Resistant Starch, a healthy carb that boosts metabolism and burns fat.
Plus, brown rice is a low-energy-density food, meaning it's heavy and filling but low in calories. One study found that women who ate a higher-energy-density diet gained three times as much weight over six years than women eating a low-energy-density diet
Grapefruit
Even if you changed nothing else about your diet, eating half a grapefruit before each meal may help you lose up to a pound a week!
A compound in the tangy fruit can lower insulin, a fat-storage hormone, and that can lead to weight loss. It's also a good source of protein, and because it's at least 90% water, it can fill you up so you eat less.

Oranges
At only 59 calories, you may not expect much from an orange, but thanks to a hefty dose of fiber, it ranks highest among fruits on a list of 38 filling foods put together by Australian researchers. Feeling full can help you eat less throughout the day.
Green tea
This steamy sip hydrates like water, which can help fill you up and shed pounds. Plus, the antioxidants in green tea will up your fat burn and calorie burn. One study found that five cups a day could help you lose twice as much weight, most of it around your middle.
Wine
Resveratrol, the famed antioxidant found in grape skin, stops fat storage. Studies show that moderate wine drinkers have narrower waists and less belly fat than liquor drinkers. Downing a glass can boost your calorie burn for a good 90 minutes.
Plantains
A half cup of cooked plantains packs almost 3 grams of Resistant Starch, a healthy carb that boosts metabolism and burns fats
Low-fat milk
The same fatty acid is found in milk, and milk's proteins can keep you feeling satisfied. The added calcium may also help; in one study, women burned more fat and calories when they had 1,000 to 1,400 milligrams of calcium per day
Cheese
Fresh goat cheese and feta contain a fatty acid that helps you feel full and burn more fat. Look for cheeses labeled "grass-fed," as those will have the highest content of this healthy fat.
Potatoes
True, potatoes are high in carbs, but they are three times as filling as a slice of white bread, and top all the foods on the same satiety index as oranges. Plus, potatoes are also rich in Resistant Starch, which helps your body burn fat.
Dark chocolate
Chocolate lovers, rejoice! A nibble of dark chocolate here and there can slow down digestion so you feel full longer and eat less at your next meal.
Dark chocolate is full of MUFAs; studies show eating a diet high in these healthy fats can rev your metabolism to burn fat and calories. It may also help by curbing cravings for salt, sweet, or fatty diet-wreckers.
Eggs
Eggs get a bad rap when it comes to weight loss. But the breakfast staple is loaded with protein that will curb your appetite. One study found that overweight women who ate egg breakfasts lost twice as much weight as women who started their days with bagels.
And don't worry about cholesterol: The study found that egg eaters don't have higher bad cholesterol or lower good cholesterol than bagel eaters.
Bananas
Bananas are a slimming superfood at the heart of Health's CarbLovers Diet. A slightly green, medium-size banana will fill you up and boost your metabolism with its 12.5 grams of Resistant Starch. Even a ripe banana still ranks high on the list of foods containing RS, with almost 5 grams.
Kidney beans
One of several varieties of beans to make the list, red beans offer protein and fiber (more than 5 grams per serving!). Kidney beans are also rich in Resistant Starch; a 1/2-cup serving packs nearly 2 grams of this slimming carb.
Almonds
Nuts are another superfood rich in healthy fats that help you slim down.
Almonds in particular can help you shed pounds: In one study, people who added a daily helping of the nuts to a low-cal diet lost more weight than people who followed the same diet but swapped almonds for a carb-heavy snack like crackers.

Assigned Entry # 3 UCF Accelerated program

I have done an accelerated program at Arizona College for my Associates of science a year ago and so I know first had what’s its like, so when I was reading the Arizona Republic news I knew what it was like to be in that program first hand.

The norm for every college and University is that they have what's called the 15 week semester courses. The 15 week is a result of professors instructing at a normal pace where everyone actually seems to be following along at a steady pace. Arizona State University (ASU) is developing what's called the 7 1/2 week semester course, where classes are being taught in a faster pace (AZ college call it accelerated). They make it so that students can graduate faster which makes the tuition cost less. ASU plans to help students to want to continue their education with less hassle and take less time to do it which means that they won’t have time to idle away from school.

My opinion about this 7 and a 1/2 week semester course tuition rate change is not going to be significant enough to speak because the prices won’t be changing drastically. But it is going to persuade more students to enroll into the university because they see that there's a program that goes much faster than having to attend university for 4 years. I will make the dropout rate decrease seeing that the time will fly by faster and it won’t be so tedious and drawn out.

My personal experience with the accelerated program is that it is hard and you have to be dedicated at all times, you have to have a good support system because if your life is chaotic you will crumble. It is a lot of pressure so you need to have a drive to succeed and keep your motivation in your thoughts at all time. I like to learn something and get it over with. I don’t like to dwell on something too long I will get distracted and drift off in my own world so I loved it. Each time I finish a class I feel accomplished I focused on one class at a time and go through it within a month and then off to another class. I like the idea of lower tuition.

One of the comments said "Sounds more like a crammed summer course to me where you just get the hours in in order to get the grade and get out as fast as you can." I agree because who wants to dwell on something for such a long period of time when you can get that same information in a shorter time so you won’t forget it. I like the sound of the comment “Call it the new Wal-Mart degree. There is nothing wrong with faster it just shows that you are able to cram a lot of information in a short period of time.
